Official Opening day for Sunshine House
Sunshine House is a volunteer run community centre in Wigan. Providing a place where you can learn new skills, have a tasty meal, and even hold meetings. In fact, you name it and Sunshine House can probably do it for you!
Their new shop ‘Sunshine House Charity Shop’ is a new venture from the team of volunteers who run Sunshine House, a community centre in Scholes.
All profits made at the dress agency, in Scholes precinct, will be put into supporting Sunshine House and the groups within it. The shop provides quality outfits for ladies and gents at the lowest possible prices, helping people who cannot afford expensive shop prices.
The shop was officially opened by the Mayor of Wigan Borough, Cllr Susan Loudon, on Tuesday 15th September. A group of adults from central day services also came to the opening and enjoyed a look around.
The team at Sunshine House is hoping this shop opening in Scholes will give the precinct a new lease of life and they have been working with other shop owners to improve the area.
Barbara Nettleton, centre manager at Sunshine House and Chief Officer of Art to Art CIC said;
We are really pleased that Centric opened up an opportunity for us to have a Charitable Dress Agency within the Scholes Precinct. A precinct that went from a thriving shopping centre to a run-down eye sore in Scholes. We have had lots of support from Wigan Council and Centric and it was fantastic to see lots of people using the shop again. We were also honoured to have the ‘First Lady’ Her Worshipful the Mayor of Wigan Susan Louden officially declare our dress agency open. We still have a long way to go in order to establish trade on the precinct but at least we are working towards having a vibrant shopping centre once more.
