National Coming Out Day

Posted: 20th Sep 2018

“Most people think they don't know anyone gay or lesbian, and in fact everybody does. It is imperative that we come out and let people know who we are and disabuse them of their fears and stereotypes.” – Robert Eichberg, Gay Rights Leader

Founded in 1988, National Coming Out Day has grown massively and becomes more well known each year, this year marking it’s 30th anniversary!

‘Coming out’ means to express your sexuality and feel proud of who you are. This national LGBTQ awareness day focuses on coming out to friends, family and colleagues and living life openly

It is believed that homophobia thrives in an atmosphere of silence and ignorance, therefore once people know they have loved ones in the LGBTQ community, they are far less likely to maintain homophobic views.

Centric Community Projects has teamed up with the UK Equality Council to create The Equality Exhibition in Aberdeen. On 11th October 2018, we will be hosting our National Coming Out Day in conjunction with the exhibition. Keep an eye on our website www.centricprojects.org for more information coming soon.

Due to loss of some of our funding we were no longer able to afford to remain in our current office space. This meant staff were losing their office and meeting space, with no alternative place to work.
