So what is Motor Neurone Disease (MND)?

Motor Neurone disease is a progressive disease that attacks the motor neurones or nerves in the brain and spinal cord. Messages gradually stop reaching the muscles which leads to weakness and wasting.

It can affect how you talk, walk, eat, drink and even breathe! But that doesn’t mean that all symptoms happen to everyone at the same time in that specific order.

Although there currently is no cure for MND, the symptoms can be managed to help sufferers achieve the best quality of life.

What are the symptoms?

It is important to realise not every symptom you experience will be caused by MND. You may have another problem which requires medical attention, so please speak to your GP. You may also have a symptom related to MND that is not listed here, as the disease will affect everyone individually. Your GP may be able to provide advice or medication to help relieve your symptoms.
