About

Lance is the founder of SportsTraider, a youth-focussed charity that offers young people the equipment and support that they need to fulfil their sporting ambition and potential regardless of their background, ability or disability. The charity works through a number of means, one of which is Britain’s first ever chain of charity sport shops, which sell sports kit and equipment, both new and second hand. The stores sell affordable, specialist kit and equipment and provides a lot free to young people who, normally, would not be able to afford them. All of the profit raised from these stores is then directed straight back into the local community to help disabled and disadvantaged young people gain access to sport. This income has helped to supply sports coaching, access to facilities such as gyms and sports clubs, plus the transport required for young sports people to attend training and fixtures at no cost. Where clubs are ran we find that anti-social behaviour drops.

Lance’s work is not just limited to the young sporting community but through his charity and community work, Lance has championed support for the wider community and has offered work-experience in the SportsTraider stores to the disabled, disadvantaged groups, long-term unemployed and ex-offenders. To date, over 13000 days of work experience has been provided across the SportsTraider stores, and recycled over 200 tons of sportswear and equipment.   Lance’s  ex-offender programme has been set up to help provide work and trading in retail and coaching giving them a much needed second chance. It has been really successful with  out of 42 ex-offenders, he has only 2 had  reoffend.

Lance’s charity endeavours have been recognised and awarded across the UK winning a number of accolades for his contribution to sport in UK communities. Most recently, Lance was awarded an honorary doctorate in Science for his services to sport, but his full list of accreditations date back to 2001:

• 2017: Honorary Doctorate for Services to Sport
• 2012: Big Venture Winning
• 2012: Olympic Torch Bearer
